CNL runs innovative participatory projects that work with hard to reach children and young people to address local needs and unite communities.

The projects focus on outcomes outlined in the government's strategy for children and young people, Every Child Matters. These are:

  • being healthy
  • staying safe
  • enjoying and achieving
  • making a positive contribution
  • achieving economic well being.
This means that projects cut across areas such as community safety and crime prevention, open spaces and the environment, housing and regeneration, health and well-being and working with hard to reach children and young people.

CNL's new intergenerational focus also contributes to the Children's Society's work with children in trouble with the law. The programme aims to unite communities, by breaking down barriers between generations, encouraging communication and developing mutual understanding.
